Writing your vows ...

When writing your vows think about the overall tone.  Will you want it to be formal or friendly, maybe even a little familiar.  Will you make it fun or serious, or a little of both.  Short or long?  These are definitely elements you need to consider.  You may also want to consider your guests and who they are and what they are expecting of you.  Most of all consider yourselves; who you are, and who you are together.

Will you be keeping your vows secret from each other so they are a beautiful surprise on your day of celebration?  Or will you share them ahead of your day?  There are no set rules that determine this - it is purely up to you.  This is your day in every way.

Think back over your time together and what that has meant to you both. How you have changed, what do you mean to each other and why do you love each other so very much.

What is it you love most about each other, how have you changed as a result of being with your partner, what behaviours do you love about them, what mannerisms or characteristic are so very special about the one you love.

If you wish to use a quote or part of a poem within your vows, don't let it take over from your words and what you want to say.

Don't worry about the actual words you decide to use - they are yours and they mean something special to you both.  So if you want to keep the words simple, then do so - this is all about you and your partner not about anyone else.

Sometimes it's good to add something humorous in your vows, but do remember that you have guests and be careful not to offend, especially if there are children with you.

As part of your journey with me, I am very happy to guide you when writing your vows, however I will always encourage you to write them.
