The Archives

The Archives

Stories are only part of the truth. Behind every legend lies a deeper history.
Names, languages, places and events that most people never see but which quietly shape the world in which the story unfolds.

The Archives are where some of those fragments are kept. Here you will find glimpses of the wider world of The Tinderdale Legend — the Three Worlds, the ancient Proto-Language, the Orders that guard the balance between realms, and the strange places that exist beyond the Middle World.

These records are not complete. Some have been lost. Others remain deliberately hidden. And some knowledge is simply too dangerous to be shared too freely.

What you will find here are pieces. Fragments of history. Notes from forgotten chronicles.

Translations of ancient words. Observations recorded by those who have travelled further into the worlds than most people ever will. If you wish, you may explore them.

But remember this:

The Archives do not tell the whole story. For that, you will need to read the books.

Archive Record: The Proto-Language

Before the Three Worlds separated there was only one language. It was not spoken often, because when spoken the world answered. The First Words shaped reality itself. They were not metaphor or poetry. They were instruction.

Only fragments of the language survive now, preserved by the oldest beings of the World of the Light. A few of the known fragments are recorded below.

Word Meaning

Aru ----- Beginning / Awakening

Kelith ----- Passage between worlds

Thraan ----- Power given form

Eldruin ----- Light that remembers

Morvath ----- Darkness that consumes

When the First Speakers argued, the words did not weaken.

They obeyed.

The world broke.

And the Three Worlds were born.

Archive Record: The Three Worlds

Long before the age of kingdoms or empires there was only one world. It was vast. It was young. And it was governed by the First Speakers, the Primals, beings who understood the language that shaped reality. But the language was too powerful. When disagreement entered the world, the words did not soften. They obeyed exactly.

The result was catastrophic.

The world fractured into three separate realms.

The World of the Light

The realm of creation, stewardship and balance.

Here stand the cities of the Light, including Christmas City, where the ancient orders maintain the delicate equilibrium between the worlds.

The Middle World

The realm of humanity.

Most people living there have forgotten the ancient fracture, believing their world to be the only one that exists.

Yet Holes Between Worlds still open from time to time.

And sometimes… people fall through.

The World of the Dark

The realm born from the fracture itself.

Not simply evil, but power without restraint.

Many of its inhabitants believe the worlds were never meant to be separated.

And they intend to correct that mistake.

Archive Record: Timelines

A Brief Timeline of the Three Worlds

The following record is drawn from fragments preserved within the Archives of Christmas City. Much of the early history of the worlds has been lost, altered or deliberately concealed. What remains forms only a partial account.

Before the Fracture

The Age of the First Speakers

Before the Three Worlds existed there was only one world.

In that world lived beings known in later chronicles as the First Speakers. They possessed knowledge of the Proto-Language, a form of speech that did not merely describe reality but could shape it.

When spoken correctly the world responded instantly.

Creation during this age was not planned. It occurred through trial, consequence and discovery.

Over time disagreement arose among the Speakers.

The words did not weaken.

They obeyed exactly.

And the world broke.

The Fracture of the Worlds

The original world separated into three distinct realms:

The World of the Light
A realm dedicated to balance, stewardship and protection.

The Middle World
The human world, where most knowledge of the fracture eventually faded into legend.

The World of the Dark
A realm shaped by the uncontrolled forces released during the fracture.

Between the three worlds appeared unstable passages known as Holes Between Worlds.

These passages remain unpredictable.

Some open for seconds.

Others remain for years.

Many have been the cause of great conflict.

The Age of the Primals

Following the fracture, the earliest guardians of the World of the Light emerged.

These beings are now referred to as the Primals.

They were among the first to stabilise the balance between the worlds and were responsible for establishing many of the structures still in existence today.

Among their greatest works were:

• The founding of Christmas City
• The creation of the Orders of the Light
• The establishment of the first systems for monitoring the Holes Between Worlds

The Primals eventually withdrew from direct governance of the worlds.

Their knowledge, however, remains preserved within the Hall of the Primals.

Few who have entered that hall have ever spoken clearly of what occurs within it.

The Founding of Christmas City

Christmas City was established in the World of the Light as a centre for coordination between the worlds.

Its purpose was practical rather than ceremonial.

From here the movements between the worlds could be monitored and managed.

Over time the city grew into a vast mountain civilisation.

It became home to many different peoples and orders including:

• The Knights of the Light
• The Elfin Orders
• The Light Secret Service (LSS)
• The Reindeer Keepers

The city’s airfields, halls and archives continue to operate continuously.

Contrary to popular belief in the Middle World, Christmas City is active every day of the year.

The Age of the Knights

As the Primals withdrew, responsibility for protecting the balance between the worlds passed to a new order.

These became known as the Knights of the Light.

Their role was simple in principle but difficult in practice:

• protect the routes between worlds
• prevent destabilisation of the realms
• respond to incursions from the World of the Dark

The Knights continue to operate from Christmas City to this day.

The Modern Age

In the Middle World most knowledge of the Three Worlds has been forgotten.

Stories remain.

Fragments survive in folklore.

Occasional events still occur when the boundaries between worlds weaken.

From time to time individuals from the Middle World cross into the World of the Light.

Most are returned.

A very small number remain.

Fewer still become involved in the ancient struggle to maintain the balance between the worlds.

Current Observations

Recent records indicate an increase in activity across several monitored passages between the worlds.

There have also been confirmed sightings of Whaarl operatives within the Middle World.

Several artefacts believed lost for centuries have also resurfaced.

Among these are the legendary Blades of Brastiu, weapons capable of cutting through magical structures.

If these weapons were ever used against key locations within the World of the Light, the consequences could extend across all three realms.
